Causes such as ear folds not to be prominent and protrusion of the ear by larger ear cartilages lead to increase of angle between the ear and hairy skin.
This situation is called prominent ear deformity. The surgery takes approximately 1-1,5 hours. It is performed under local anesthesia in adults and under general anesthesia in children.
Hospital stay is not required if prominent ear surgery is performed under local anesthesia. Mild pains which can be controlled with simple painkillers can be present on the 1st day.
Ear splint applications is recommended as to be whole day for 2 weeks and at nights for 2 weeks.
It takes 4-6 weeks for the ear to take its full shape.
