Rhinoplasty

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is the process of correcting the conditions that impair the shape and functions of the nose. Nasal length, nose tip angle, nose lip relationship, bone and cartilage protrusions, curvature are generally uncomfortable conditions. While making changes in the shape of the nose with rhinoplasty, it is very important to ensure harmony with other structures of the face. Since the nose is one of the most striking elements of the face, care is taken to keep the changes within natural limits.

To Whom Can Rhinoplasty Be Applied?

Rhinoplasty can be applied to people over the age of 19 who have problems with the shape or function of the nose. Problems related to the shape of the nose can be listed as a protrusion called a nasal arch, a low nose tip, a large nose, and a curvature of the nose. Sometimes, aesthetic surgeries are applied to people who have no problems in appearance but have serious breathing difficulties due to health problems. Although the indication of rhinoplasty is the request of the person, performing rhinoplasty for anyone who wants it can also reveal unnecessary procedures. Therefore, rhinoplasty should be a joint decision of the patient and the doctor. It is important in patient selection that the person has realistic expectations, does not see the surgery as a turning point in his life, and is aware that nose surgery is not as easy as it seems and requires serious effort.

How to Plan Before Rhinoplasty?

In the interviews held before the Rhinoplasty, the person should be sure that the doctor is sufficiently informed about the technique and the details of the surgery. After the pre-operative photographs and functional examinations, the ideal nose sizes are planned according to the face structure of the person. The procedures to be performed to bring the current nose closer to the ideal dimensions are planned before the surgery. The result to be obtained in nose surgery depends on the nose structure and face shape of the person before the surgery. Everyone's nose is unique to itself, it should be understood before the surgery that it is not possible to resemble someone else's nose.

How is Rhinoplasty Applied?

Rhinoplasty is a procedure performed under general anesthesia. In general, it takes 2-3 hours, the time varies according to the procedures to be done. Open or closed rhinoplasty can be applied. Successful results are obtained in both. Here, it is important which technique the surgeon's hand is prone to. It is not possible to achieve results with a single method for every patient, so the method is chosen according to the patient's necessity and the surgeon's preference.

What Happens After Rhinoplasty ?

Hospitalization is recommended for 1 day after rhinoplasty, cold application after the operation relaxes the person. Swelling and bruising are now less common with meticulous surgical technique. Again, since the bone and cartilage membranes are protected, pain is not seen much anymore. It is sufficient to use simple painkillers. Dressings are changed in the first week after rhinoplasty, and the person can start work in this way. Afterwards, checks are made in the 1st month, 3rd month, 6th month and 1st year. In general, the shape of the nose becomes clear in the 3rd month, but the full shape will appear in the 1st year.

Recovery after Rhinoplasty

After rhinoplasty, silicone tampons and thermoplastic splints are used. Placing and removing silicone pads is quite simple. The tampons are removed on the 3rd postoperative day and the splint on the 7th day. You can continue to breathe thanks to the space inside with silicone pads.

How is the Recovery After Rhinoplasty?

It may be necessary to take simple painkillers on the first day after rhinoplasty. Swelling and bruising can be seen very little and usually disappear within 3-4 days. A one-day hospital stay is recommended. Tampons are usually removed within 3 days. In the 1st week, the dressings are opened and a simple dressing is done. In the 2nd week, this dressing is also removed and the person returns to his work and social life with his new nose. Healing takes place quickly in the first weeks, but it takes an average of 1 year for the nose to completely disappear, and it is natural to have changes in the shape of the nose during this time.

What Negativities May Occur After Nose Aesthetics?

Negative situations rarely occur after rhinoplasty.  Swelling around the eyes, bruising, nasal congestion, bleeding, and vomiting due to anesthetic drugs may occur. These are situations that can happen in any surgery. In general, they are conditions that completely improve in the first weeks.

Months after rhinoplasty, there is a possibility of protrusion, collapse and deformation of the nose. In this case, it is important that you apply to your doctor who performed your surgery and state your complaints and be in contact with your doctor. Keep in mind that secondary interventions may be needed to correct these rare problems. It is necessary to wait for 1 year in secondary interventions.
